Terry Pratchett was a famous author who wrote numerous books, some of which have been turned into films. Good Omens, for example, was turned into a series that saw Michael Sheen and David Tennant appearing as the lead characters. As a child, Pratchett wanted to be an astronomer, and when he grew up, he built an observatory in his garden. Throughout the rest of his life, he would spend time looking at the stars at night.
From a young age, Pratchett enjoyed writing, and he published his first book when he was 14 years old and made £14 from “The Hades Business”. He took the money that he earnt and bought himself a typewriter. It was this typewriter that he would use to write many more manuscripts. By age 17, Pratchett started a career as a journalist, and he wrote a column in Children’s Circle Story.
His first book ‘The Carpet People’ was published in 1971, and from then on, he produced numerous that sold in the thousands. His Discworld series has been loved by people of all ages for many years. They were so popular that tv adaptations, video games, plays and maps were produced to support the stories.
